Anyone ever heard of The Palmer Firm, they are claiming to cut my credit card debt from $11061 to $7000 in 28 months with monthly payments of $257. I called credit solutions but they dont deal with the state of Georgia. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks everyone. We’re current on payments, and haven’t used any of the cards for two years. We just can’t make more than the minimum payment, and we’ll never be payed off if that’s all we can swing. We don’t have that much debt compared to a lot of folks we know, but just looking at all options. I’m thinking we’re going to check out a non-profit organization, like suggested by a few of you. My husband and I just did a major construction project on our house to make room for our five month old. Because I don’t work, but now will have to a few nights a week to help out with finances, the increase of our mortgage to cover the construction, credit card bills, student loans for the both of us and the cost of a new baby really has made things tight. We’re looking into debt relief programs where they’ll get rid of the interest rates and lower the balances. I spoke to our accountant who does our taxes and said they’re perfectly legal, but I wanted to hear other people’s experiences with them. I know it will negatively affect our credit scores for a while, which is fine because we’re cancelling the credit cards so we don’t get into this mess again, but how badly does it affect it? Was it worth it for you to do it? We’ll be saving $300 a month by doing it, but I hope the benefits outweigh the negatives.
kemperk, unfortunately that’s not so easy. Not only do I have a five month old, I also have a 7 year old. While we want control of our finances, we didn’t have kids so their grandparents or daycare centers can watch them while my husband and I work 2 jobs each. This was something I thought could help us out, although I know it’s not fair to others who are paying their debt in full. I just don’t know what’s best.

For the past couple years we have gotten so over extended that we cannot keep up w/mortgage, car payments, utilities, let alone maxed out credit cards. Up until this time our credit was always excellent, but due to late payments, over limit fees, etc…not only has our credit score fallen drastically, but we cannot even seem to make all minimum payments with anthing left over. We have looked into both a debt relief plan (which I know nothing about), and alos re-financing which was the last thing we wanted to do. Our first mortgage only has approx. 9 years left, but a home equity loan we took on in a rush, has another 27 yrs, and a much higher rate than the first. Can’t decide if we should roll all (both mortgages & all cc expenses) into one, or try the dept relief program to pay of credit cards, in what they “say” could be within 3-5 yrs. Anyone know how these work?

My wife want to put her bill into this program so that when we apply for a new home, our credit score will be better. We have heard that it was a bad idea in that we have to wait a year after we have completed the program to get approved for a loan.
