I have recently been introducted to a debt reduction program- which sounds to good to be true. I need some advise.
This program is where i stop paying my bills in order to get the credit card companies to settle. In the mean time, I am setting money away into an account known only to me. When enough money is set aside the Debt reduction company will try and settle with my creditors.
Are there any legal consequences I should be aware of?

Title pretty much says it all! As with many folks nowadays, I am staring down bankruptcy, and would like to get some expert’s (or those who have gone through this and succeeded) advice. I have ventured on my own, and have been unsuccessful at achieving either a rate reduction or debt forgiveness.

I mean, c’mon – how can your company combine and reduce my debt by over half, without filing bankrupt? Whats the deal? And you say my credit rating will not be hurt? What about all the debt I have from buying that ocean front property in Colorado?
yeah yeah…the companies and their websites are always vague about what they actually do…a link to one of the services does not answer the question of how they can take my debt and reduce it with generally no strings or addtional debt.
I am not in touble with debt, I just find it ironic that us, as a society, have gone to the extent of overburdening credit debt and then finding ways to eliminate the responsibility for ones own actions. I feel like I could have a free pass to get whatever materialistic things I want and then never have to repay. Is this the beginnings of a new socialistic society? A trial of materialistic communism? The whole idea of wasteful materialism sanctioned by the government sickens me.

I do make more than my required payment on time monthly, only have debt on three credit cards, but my debt stays the same. I was thinking of one of those debt consolidation companies I see advertised on TV all the time, but someone told me they are a bad deal. Can anyone tell me how they work and why they are a bad deal?
