Olivia asked:

Got a credit card with an ex-boyfriend who said he would help me build my credit from nothing to something and now I am paying the effects of it. I cant even get a loan to try to help pay it off. He’s 30 and right now I am 20. I just really need help with this badly.

If the credit card is in just your name, then you are 100% liable for the card.

Who made the charges to the account?

You do not have any proof if the agreement was verbal, it would be a case of “he said, she said”.

If you signed the contract, i’m afraid you’re stuck with the payments. It seems he took you for a ride. I’m not going to tell you who you should date, but being 10 years older is a big different when you’re only 20. You can try other banks or even a credit union to see what they can do for you. I usually don’t recommend this but perhaps your parents can help you out? Just remember never to cosign for friends or relatives

Life lesson: when it comes to money, always get someone to sign a written agreement. Since it was a verbal agreement, it’s his word against yours, so the court won’t see more evidence on your side. It’s unfortunate, but now you can know for the future to always use written agreements for this sort of thing.

Good luck.
