Have just found out I’m in default on a loan and am returning for short visit to AU next year. What can I do?

I have a personal loan in Australia that is about 25,000. I have been trying to make payments, but have not been able to make the same amount. The account is no longer visible on my internet banking, which I guess means it’s gone to debt collector – It’s my own fault, and I should have tried to rectify the situation sooner but I was just too embarrassed. I want to fix the situation as best I can – but am not sure of the process.

What happens after you default in Australia?

Can a debt management/relief firm help, even if I’m currently living in the USA?

Help/Suggestions please!

DONT WORRY ABOUT IF YOU ARE LIVING IN THE USA AND THE CREDITOR KNOWS THIS THE DEBT WILL HAVE BEEN WRITTEN OFF.
THEIR ARE NO WAYS THAT THE DEBT CAN BE ENFORCED IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE COUNTRY

Stay away from debt management and consolidation companies. It’s a scam. Call your old bank in Australia and ask them how get a hold of the collection agency. Pay back your debt and sleep well at night. It won’t happen overnight, but if you stop using credit, get on a budget, and pay cash for everything, you’ll clear up the debt faster than you think. Hang in there.
