How many years will it take to pay back our government debt?

Government Debt
10 minutes late asked:

At the end of Bush’s term, I remember hearing it would take just under twenty years for us (and our kids) to pay back the national debt.

From what I’ve read, Obama has just been spending spending spending. How do we reduce debt by spending more money, and at this rate, how long will it take to pay back?

Yum Yum: you’re a fool…this is your answer; stick your head in the sand…JESUS and you libs wonder why we are so mad…this is your attitude about everything…you people make me sick

Don’t worry.. you won’t live long enough to see it.. nor will your kids, ot theirs… or theirs.. and on and on….Thanks Obama!

lets put it this way whoever is alive at that time will be able to travel to the moon in 4 days and fly to work

Keith V Says:

Maybe he should let bill take over economic policy.

Shadow Knight Says:

Bush’s figures did not include the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and had other instances of fuzzy math.

But the answer to your question in bold is – it will take many years to pay off the United States national debt.

richer_than_you1971 Says:

It will never be paid off

Ron Burgundy Says:

You can’t reduce debt by piling on more debt. From what I read everyone in the U.S. owes $36,000. Our grandkids will still be paying this money back.

Down with the South Says:

Your grand kids may see the end of it. That is if we don’t get another republican who thinks like Bush.

FugQ2 Says:

When your childs children reach about 30-35 years old, maybe then

Calvin Says:

Who are we kidding? it’s never going to get paid back….and if it is paid back….it will be with worthless money.

Comrade Says:

With compounding interest I don’t even think it is payable is it? We are borrowing money now just to pay the interest.

Hmmmm…….ask the banks, They have seemed to figure it out.

OH, wait, NEVERMIND.

WhatBrain? Says:

Hard to say; Obama’s spending has already exceeded eight years of Bush spending (including his own bailout, two wars, 9/11, and other bailouts). I guess as soon as the country goes into default (2-years?).

Matt Says:

20 years might still be viable, granted inflation will be bad enough we will be paying about $25 for a gallon of milk, but that trillion dollars won’t seem like as much.

Shady Jane Says:

We won’t pay off the national debt because our debt is a rock-solid investment for the wealthy.

darcy m Says:

The one you spoke of did not include the cost of wars

It was never included

How long? Can reduce the debt but will never be paid off, I think anyway

Once this country gets moving they would be better able to focus on it and sure there will be figures out then

Funny how everyone is so concerned…everyone wake up the wars alone cost trillions past 7 years and mounting

God Bless the Troops and their families………forever in their debt

That was the worst cost and will never be able to repay that one…dying for nothing a lie that continued…WMD were found NOT be be there HOW many years ago….

Tawni Says:

according to Obama, probably 4! Yay for Hope!!
