I am 16 weeks pregant and going into debt due to high risk?

My husband makes 10 and hour we cannot afford to pay his bills and my bills on that income. I am high risk due to previous pregnancies this pregancy hasnt been diffrent. I am miserable but I have to pay my credit card bills and my student loan payment I cant pay either now. I thought about a abortion but after looking into it I cant do it. should I file bankruptcy?
I am having extreme morning sickness so all the people saying just get a job its not that easy when your sick.

This is a tough sitation, but stay strong and you will get through it. As far as financial advice, I’m not sure what to tell you. But I will pray for you. :)

all i can say is do not do an abortion. that is exactly like murdering someone. murdering your child. its crude and evil thing. i dont get how people can do it. but i dont know how to help you with the debt thing..cuz im too young to know about that..just please dont do an abortion.

Yes, I think that seems as if it’s the only way to get more money at this point. Can your husband take on a second job? I’m sorry to hear this but hang in there! People are in much worse situations. Good for you for keeping the baby. I for one would have an abortion but you will probably regret it.

its Very hard ti file bankruptcy now for your student loans you can call the lender and they will make arrangements if you tell them your situation for up 2 six months. If your married you may consider consolidating both of your bills so you have 1 low monthly payment to pay them. I’m a stay at home mom to my 4 year and have been his whole life. I know for a fact if you try and cut back on alot of expenses you can make it on the 10 dollar an hour income. Its hard but it can done.

contact the Consumer Debt Counseling Agency in your area. they can help you by contacting your creditors and getting your debts reduced where you can make small monthly payments. if that doesn’t work out then your only recourse would probably be bankruptcy. congratulations and good luck1

Since you are pregnant and at high risk I highly recommend you go into your welfare office an apply for a medical card. They may have a spend down program where you have to pay so much and they pay the rest. Even though you earn money, you may still qualify. It is a hassle, a big hassle, but worth a try. The worse they can say is no.

Also if they do say no, be sure to understand “why”. I know people denied because they were one hundred dollars over in assets, and something like selling the family car and buying a cheaper one would have qualified them.

Don’t worry, you can go off the program later. It’s not a life sentence, it’s a safety net to protect mothers and children in a crises. That’s what its for .It’s ok to ask for help.

You can go back to work after the baby but if you are “high risk” ask your doctor about restrictions for now. I assume there will be a lot! HEy, you can apply for a deferment or forbearance on that student loan just to defer payments til after the baby. It’s just filling out a form. You’re in a tight spot but it can’t last more than 9 months right?

No, the bankruptcy laws are much different now than they used to back then. Pick up the phone talk to your credit card companies, see if they’re willing to work with you. Tell them your situation, and see if they will defer your payments. Many credit card companies, if not all of them, offer a credit protection plan, you should have opted to have it, or if you have it, take advantage of it. See if they’re willing to help you, most are willing to help you out for a month or so. Next step, if that doesn’t work contact a non-for profit company that will consolidate your bills into one and you will have one payment to make etc. Do lots and lots of research on the company you will use. Make sure it is a NON FOR PROFIT company like Genesis. Many companies will try to rip you off, don’t fall for it, you will hav to do some legwork on this one though. If all else fails speak with a bankruptcy attorney, I don’t know how much cc debt you have but most will be willing to speak with you to see if a bk is what you need. Keep in communication with your lenders, that is the most important thing. You never know, they might just be willing to help you out.

same thing happened to my daughter. she and husband both working could not pay medical bills and credit cards and bills . it was hard still is her baby only lived 5 days . our family is strong we all help her out money and support and she is working 2 jobs. i wish she would come home . so she has no house bills and can pay off her bills but she will not. if you have a nice family ask for help.call your credit card company and ask them to drop the high finance charges, they did from just a phone call for my daughter.

I would write to all the pro-choice organizations & see if they have any kind of program to help you..if you have e-mail I would love if you could tell me what help you get so I know how to better ask this kind of question if anyone else ever has it…There are also some pro-choice christian speakers on finances I would find out their names & numbers & just make it a mission to get help…I would write to Michael Moore & see if he can help you do your research cause he reports on this kind of stuff as far as whether people who want people to not have abortions actually do anything to help them would be something he might be interested in & maybe he can document your journey..

First off congrats on your pregnancy! I hope that all works out well with your family.

Next contact your student loan people….they can give you a deferment based on your medical situation. SInce you are pregnant the doctor should have no problems filling out the paperwork required to provide proof of your situation. Next if you are not late on your credit card payments as of yet, sign up for the credit protection thing. If you call your credit card company and ask them about then can enroll you. If you quailfy they will make your minimum payments and your interest will not accrue while you are under doctors orders. This way you can avoid bankruptcy and you wont have to wait 7 years to provide your little angel with her/his own back yard to play in. Best of luck to you!

If you have considered all your options and see no other alternative and you’ve talked it over with your husband and he agrees.File bankruptcy.Sometimes in life we have to make tough choices.Having a healthy baby is worth not being able to get a credit card for a while.Speaking from experience,it can be better for you than you ever imagined.It also teaches you to use your credit more wisely.Creditors put you in a jam so you will always owe them,never fall for it again.You are bringing a life into this world,that is important.do what it takes to protect that life and yourself so you’re here for them.We often find ourselves living to pay bills,and debt.Once you file you may find that life is easier and you can get a better handle on things.You can improve your future for your family.

Good choice… because getting an abortion because you are behind in your credit card and student loan payments… just isn’t a good reason.

Bankruptcy will only help with your Credit Cards it will not include your student loan. Only “death” wipes out your student loans…
And it isn’t so easy anymore to file for Bankruptcy. If the court finds that you are capable of paying back your debt – even if it is painfully slow – then the most you will be able to do is a chapter 13 which means you enter into a set agreement to pay back some of your debt.
I don’t recommend it… Chapter 7 destroys your credit for 7 to 10 years and chapter 13…. can ruin it even longer.

What you should do is call up the credit card companies and ask for lower payments, a reduced interest rate, etc. until you can get back on your feet. Same thing with your student loan…. pick up the phone and tell them that you can’t afford full payments right now…

the best advice in this thread are the ones who tell you to look for community help organizations from debt relief – to wic programs for food- go for it -
we all pay taxes to keep the social net in okay shape- when someone is falling it’s good to help em, save them from despair, pain anguish -

I know it’s scary darlin’
there are various programs – go find em- ask around
ask at the unemployment office -
