Tough question. I’d let them go. Even though I wouldn’t want to.
Reason: I feel its my responsibilty to give them the best that I can, even if that means that I give them to someone else for the chance of a better life.
Would be heart breaking though and I would only do it if I was truely street-bound homeless.

I would do everything in my power to find him/her a good home with friends or family first. If I couldnt I would try and find him/her a home with someone els. If I couldnt do that either I would bring my dog to a no kill shelter. I would **** to have to give my dog away and it would break my heart, however if I was homeless I would not be able to give my dog the kind of care it should have. I would much rather my dog be healthy and happy than keep it for my own selfish reasons.

I guess I am fortunate in that I know my family and friends would never let that happen. I would never be forced to give up my pets.
We might have to modify out lives, but none of my pets will ever be surrendered.

Would you take your children to the orphanage? Nope. I’d give my left *** before I gave up my dogs.

I would find a reliable friend or family member that could take them in until I was back on my feet. While your at it, maybe find someone that can take YOU in till you are back on your feet!

I would NEVER give up my dogs! They are like children to me! They don’t care where they live so as long as I could feed them I would take them to live with me on the street! If they was not a domesticate pet they would live out in the wild so what difference does it make if you live in a cardboard box?
Also I think they would be more upset if they was without me then where they live!!
Lots of homeless people have pets and as long as they are looked after there is no worry!!

I agree with the Bernese Mountain Dog. Although I would like to be involved in the placement of my animals, which means *maybe* I might be able to work out a foster situation until I could get them back.
I wouldn’t ever surrender to a kill-shelter though. Regardless of my situation. In that case, I’d sleep under the bridge with the animals piled on me for warmth. LOL

There are several options without having to go to the pound. As somebody else stated, you can attempt to find a trustworthy family member to care for your dogs until you are able to take care of them yourself. At least with that, you will be able to still see the dogs. You can also seek out no-kill shelters or animal welfare agencies. I know there are groups out there that will foster dogs until they can find home for them. Usually they go into the pound and get the “kill list” for that day and try to take in as many as they can.
I took my pets to a rescue group for the specific animal, and they remain in contact with me about how my pets are doing and whether or not they have found homes for them yet. They’ve also reinforced to me that they would prefer to “adopt” the animals to me once I can take them again.

I would have to keep them with me – unless I could find a close friend or family member I could trust to watch them for a while until I (hopefully) got back on my feet. We had to move one time and couldn’t find anywhere that took pets – so my aunt had to take them and us in for about 6 months til we could find a house that we could rent that allowed dogs. We found one and have been renting from the landlord for years until recently when I made arrangements to buy this house – he was cool and even gave us rent equity so I got the house for a sweet deal.
Anyway – point is – I can’t bear to be separated from my dogs and would probably keep them with me

i would take all with me. i have 6 personal dogs. they would not abandon me, so i would not abandon them.
i also have 7 rescues i’m trying to relocate because we might have to move. but if i can’t find another place to live and keep my dogs, i’ll pitch a tent somewhere.

I would simply do what is best for my dogs. If i were in the situation that I were living in the streets – I simply would NOT be able to care for my dogs the way they needed to be. What would happen if one of them got sick? Or injured? What will they eat?
No. I will not be selfish and keep them with me.
Infact I HAVE thought of these terrible “what ifs?” Two of my dogs were adopted from a no-kill shelter. In the contract I signed – they are to be returned to the shelter at any point in their lives if I can no longer care for them. I work in foster care myself. If it ever came down to it – my dogs will be rehomed with trusted dog loving friends who will be able to provide for them. NOT the pound…

I would keep my dogs with me even if it meant living in my car with them . I would not ever want them to be alone in a shelter . But that wont happen because my dogs if need be will always have a home with the rescue group i adopted them from .

I’d live under a bridge and eat cat food if it meant my dog could stay with me. I’d spend what money I did have on his good dog food.
