Is it worth me getting prepaid credit card to help solve internet shopping problem ?

credit help
billywhizz asked:

I have a problem/addiction to internet shopping. Its getting out of hand.
One way to try to help towards solving it is maybe to get a prepaid credit card, where you have to go to the shop to put money on the card and you can only spend as much money as you put on the card.

The trouble is there are charges, it costs £10.00 to get the card and 75p each time you top it up.

Is it worth me getting this card to help or am i being ripped off ?.

Paying to use your own money is a rip off, but these cards are for people who can’t get credit, can’t get a bank account, or who want the anonymity of not having a bank account. There may also be charges everytime you use it, so look for the best deal.

It is better to simply not shop online. A shopping addiction can lead to financial ruin, but at least when you pay in hard cash, it’s interest free.

Of course it’s a rip off …. and it’s not a solution either !

But I think you already know that.

hi hope this helps a bit, Just personal experiences
I understand exactly how you feel although for a slightly different reasons – mainly TV buying addict here of 45 years of age!!! So I THOUGHT THE SAME AS YOU THESE CARDS MAY HELP ME??? BUT I ONLY HAVE SEEN 1 AD 4 SAME ON TV!!!

This is first night on BT Yahoo so felt id ad my feelings to your? Cos the only advice I have in banking is as a Nurse, Mother and now EX Wife (DON’T THINK MY Divorce was totally due to my spending habits-but if my ex was about he may have another answer!!!!)

i have no idea of your age, gender etc and please don’t think im mad or bad! suggesting that it may be but id hv to admit that some things iv bought don’t even arrive and it didn’t bother me too much!!!! It was a buzz just spending the money and sometimes im prone to a premenstrual spend too!!!

My purely friendly/motherly advice would be and its not as mad as it may first read!!!! – !st cut up all your cards even your debit card
as, in my experience, it can takes a few years to become good at handling banks and all the products they can throw at you when you 1st start earning or your earnings reach a point when THEY DECIDE to sell their products to You!! Its not the worst thing in the world to learn to go card free and use CASH instead for a couple of weeks or so, and anyway yu can easily ask for the cards you have chopped to be re-issued (Your puppy ate Your -> wallet/purse/handbag/ house/ etc
APOLOGYS IF YOU THINK IV SENT SAME PIECE X2 BUT……LOST CONCENTRATION He He !!DOZED OFF n LEFT HAND O RETURN
Maybe try seeing how well you manage using cash and see how you can change yor habits re spending and make it fun by say searching around car boot sales or charity shops and see if you can start makig money online or in the “real” world by selling UP if you find you hv talent in lots of areas from Cars and their parts, vinyl 45s & 33rpm records, Comics, scent bottles war memorabilia, me i found out i was good at China, Pottery, paintings & prints n small silver bits.It more or less cured me + iv made good mates along the way

You my find thqt you need 1 or 2 credit cards, not 10 or so whereby you pay minimum monthly n keep raising credit limit higher, higher!

I really hope this is of some help to you, if you posted this ? then id believe its worry enough 4u 1 recognise n start dealing with the issue.
ANOTHER WAY – SPLIT UR SPENDING IN 2 PUT HALF IN2 EACH card and see! Whats to loose barr £10.75 u may find those OPEN COSTINGS mk u see how much you really r spending??? Reckon its worth a try – you CANT overspend!! Can u??? – infact i think I may lookup prepay cards too! Id ideally like it so salary etc could be paid in,thats£10 less if you mk x2 transactions!!! lets get OUR £s doing n going where WE want it 2go!!!
GOOD LUCK Marie-Claire NE London Area

if poss let me know how itw going as n when you hv a spare few minutes, good Luck getting it sorted M-C

i think it might help you to stop spending, if you think your going to get charged everytime u use the card, thats less money to spend. ! it would certainly make me think before i shopped.

However, O2 havejust launched a pre paid visa card, you load money on to it, and if your an o2 customer you can get the card free. i ordered one last night ( just because i could )
