What are the best ways to save money on gas for my car?

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee – only gets like 15-16 mpg. I’m only 16 so I don’t have a lot of money for gas, so what are the best ways to save money on gas? Do those devices that you attatch to the engine to use water really work? If not, what are some other things I could do to save money?

dont drive. jk try getting a fuel induction cleaning, we do that at my shop and it works great, increases gas mileage by 10%

Keep it tuned up, change air and fuel filters, maintain proper air pressure, maintain proper alignment, and drive it like an old lady.

Slow down. Try and learn how to “coast”. Don’t always use either the gas or break, instead give your car some gas and then try to coast for a little ways. Good Luck.

None of the aftermarket devices work. If they did, they would have come from the factory. Don’t waste your money.

Drive slow. 5 under the speed limit, max of 60 on the highway. Accelerate gently, and start slowing down way ahead of time. Inflate your tires to the max pressure recommended on the sidewall or the doorjam. Keep your air and fuel filters clean. Keep up on your maintenance. Keep your driving to a minimum.

Yeah, I know most of that isn’t any fun when you’re 16. ;) Sorry.

One of the easiest things to do is SLOW DOWN!!

When accelerating, do so slowly.
When on the highway, do the speed limit and try to keep the throttle as still as you can..

you can buy a cold air intake and a muffler to help the engine breathe/exhale better…this will increase mpg’s and also power, and the added power tends to make ppl drive a little faster, resulting in poor mpg’s…but if you drive slow with these addons you can see atleast 5-10 mpg increase.

We used to kid my dad about his “Depression driving,” but I’ve taken up the habit as gas prices have risen. The key is anticipation. Every time you step on the brake, you’re wasting gas. Every time you “floor it,” you’re wasting gas. Drive at a steady, even speed; don’t weave in and out of traffic. If you see a red light ahead, just let off the gas and coast. Try to drive at times of the day when there is less traffic. Making sure the vehicle is well lubricated and tuned, the tires are properly inflated and the hubs are in “free” are some of the little things that can help the vehicle run to its peak efficiency, but your driving habits will save more gas than anything else.

Aftermarket devices are gimmicks to con people out of money they don’t have. If they did work, Consumer Reports would have favorably reported it long ago. They haven’t.

As others have already stated, stay away from devices such as water injection or other devices that sound too good to be true.

Just remember to keep the Jeep properly tuned. Drive gently, keep the tires properly inflated, consolidate your trips into one larger trip if you can. Drive during less busy times if possible ( a vehicle in motion burns less fuel compared to one sitting in stop n’ go traffic ).

the devices do NOT work.

Some tips for help with mileage:

keep your tire pressure as high as your owners manual allows.

drive carefully. accelerate slowly.

when you see a stop (red light, etc) ahead of you, immediately take your foot off the gas and coast to the stop.

no roof rack

keep the car maintained properly.

If your owners manual says premium fuel required, use it.

on the open highway, drive as slowly as your patience allows. I found that shifting from 75 to 65 increased my mileage by 20%.

Use cruise control. Steady speed helps mileage.

Do not idle. let the car warm only for 30 seconds before driving off. If you are going to be stopped at a long light, shut the engine off.

And the biggest one: don’t drive.
